The day of 22nd May 2007 is my little princess' Zhi
Xuan's birthday.
At 38th
week of pregnancy, I began to have surges on and off...finally at 39th
week of pregnancy, I had a surges 5 to 10 minutes apart.
It was 21st of May, at
8.45pm, I was admitted to the hospital and my cervix was 2cm opened.
It was my third birth, so the doctor suggested that I stayed in the
labour room. My husband and I requested to have supper and it was
consented by the doctor. We went for supper at a restaurant in the
residential area nearby. It was about 10.30 pm then.
At about 11.30pm, we went
back to the hospital and the doctor came over to check my cervix again,
It was 5cm opened. I thought our baby will be coming out soon. Then we
rested in the labour room. I listened to my Rainbow Relaxation CD and
fell asleep.
On the 22nd May 7.00am, I
woke up, had a bath and took my breakfast. At 8.00 am, the doctor came
and checked my cervix it was 6 cm opened. He said that soon the baby
will come out. My husband and I stayed in the labour ward. We had lunch
and tea. We listening to music and watched a movie on DVD. On and off,
the midwife checked my baby’s heartbeat. It was normal. The surges
continued to get more frequent and stronger.
At 3.30 pm, the doctor
came again to check my cervix. It was 7 cm opened. The progress of
opening was a bit slow but the rate was acceptable. I was very relaxed
and I also walked around and chatted with the nurses on duty. They were
so surprised that I was able to do so without any sign of pain or agony.
On the same evening around
5.30 pm, the doctor came and checked the cervix. It remained 7cm open
but the membranes had just released. The surges became more intense and
I began to feel the pressure. We took our dinner at 6.30pm. After dinner
i listened to my Rainbow Relaxation CD and put on some essential oil to
relax.
At 7.30 pm, I could feel
that the baby was on the way out. The doctor and the midwives were ready
to help but it was difficult to birth out the baby because I was a bit
tired and my husband suggested me to squat. With the help of gravity,
the baby came out smoothly into the doctor’s waiting hands. He
immediately passed my little princess to me.
She was so calm was
started to look around. She didn't cry and I breastfed her immediately.
The umbilical cord was left uncut until it had stopped pulsating. The
doctor waited about 20 minutes before handing over the scissors to my
husband to cut it. “It was very tough indeed”, commented my husband. Our
bonding is very close. Zhi Xuan was with me within the first 2 hours in
the labour room. This is very important for the baby to feel secure
after leaving the mother’s womb as the practice of separating the baby
from the mother immediately after birth is shocking for the baby.
